stretclied liimself before his Guru, rose and left for Srirangam<br />

with his • staff and pennant.'<br />

Some time after, Eamjlnuja journeyed, a.s bidden, to liis<br />

Master for f artlier instructions, aud humbled himself before<br />

him. " Come uow," said G. Purna, cla.spiug Riimanuja's liand<br />

lovingly.<br />

Taking him to a sequestered spot and adopting every<br />

precaution that no one may disturb <strong>the</strong>m, " touch my feet "<br />

said he, and promise thou wilt not venture on fur<strong>the</strong>r disclosures<br />

<strong>of</strong> our most cherished secrets." On Ramanuja solemnly<br />

plighting his word, Purna began in <strong>the</strong> manner <strong>of</strong> Lord<br />

Krishna —<br />

:<br />

' Listen, Arjuna, again, to My l<strong>of</strong>ty speech, <strong>the</strong> Secret <strong>of</strong><br />

Secrets. I say it as it is good for <strong>the</strong>e, and as thou art my friend<br />

and devotee.' [Bh : Gi. XVIIL 64.]<br />

" It is <strong>the</strong> Last Word {Charama-sloka) <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> spiritual<br />

science, contained in <strong>the</strong> Lord's verse " said Piirna. Thus :<br />

" Gice up entirely all o<strong>the</strong>r Ways,<br />

Choose Me alone as Thy Way<br />

Thee, from all sins, I will absolve,<br />

•'<br />

No more tJien shalt thou mourn." [Bh :<br />

" Son, reveal not <strong>the</strong>se Holy Truths to <strong>the</strong> unprepared, undeserving,<br />

unserving, and haters <strong>of</strong> God (Me)." {Bh: Gi. XVTII.<br />

67.] Ramanuja, if you value <strong>the</strong>se Truths, <strong>the</strong>n let not a<strong>the</strong>ists i<br />

and heretics hear <strong>the</strong>m. Guard <strong>the</strong>m against such.<br />

" Let it be, Sire, as thou wilt '" said Ramanuja, " but may<br />

I not make exceptions <strong>of</strong> such worthy God-loving souls as<br />

Kiirfisa. How can f conceal from him ? " " He may, be worthy"<br />

enjoined Purna," but our Sastras lay conditions such as :<br />

" One year, half year, quai-ter year at least, shall <strong>the</strong> postulant<br />

be examined in every way ; and <strong>the</strong>n shall <strong>the</strong> Guru initiate him.<br />
