lllessed Feet, ^ -which Ramauuja received in humility as <strong>the</strong><br />
greatest honor and blessing conferred on a mortal ; and stood<br />
transfixed with <strong>the</strong> thought that from that day on-vvards he had<br />
become one whose life was to be solely dedicated to <strong>the</strong> service<br />
<strong>of</strong> God.<br />
As he was thus ruminating, Lord Ranga ( = Periya PerumS,!,<br />
or Lord stationary resting on Serpent Sesha) spoke thus :<br />
" All <strong>the</strong> riches <strong>of</strong> our Kingdom here and <strong>of</strong> Our Upper Regions,<br />
are given to <strong>the</strong>e, and to thy followers. The title TJ(jayavar ' is<br />
conferred on <strong>the</strong>e. Take charge <strong>of</strong> Our household here, <strong>of</strong> which<br />
We appoint <strong>the</strong>e guardian and trustee, and manage all its aflairs<br />
wisely." RS,manuja :— received <strong>the</strong> mandate humbly and turning<br />
to Maha-purna said " What blessings belong not to those who<br />
have trusted Acharyas like you, Sire ? To mj- spiritual connection<br />
with you, is due <strong>the</strong> extraordinary favour Loi-d Ranga<br />
has bestowed upon me this day." Puma said :<br />
" noble pupil<br />
<strong>of</strong> mine, <strong>the</strong> prophecy <strong>of</strong> St. Nammazhvar, to which we were<br />
keenly looking forward, has tliis day come to pass. The prophecy<br />
is that contained in his verse :<br />
" Men, learn that Kali<br />
will soon come to an end" ^ ; and this is with reference to<br />
yourself. Pray <strong>the</strong>n enter on j-our holy duties without fur<strong>the</strong>r<br />
thought." R&manuja obeyed, and assumed charge <strong>of</strong> hia^<br />
exalted position. Taking his seat in <strong>the</strong> Hall called <strong>the</strong> Periya<br />
Tirumandapam, he instituted searching enquii-ies as to whe<strong>the</strong>r<br />
<strong>the</strong> weights and measures used in <strong>the</strong> Sri-bhaiKJ.dra (stores)<br />
were correct ; whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> flower '-service, sandal-paste<br />
service, food "-service, light '-service, and all such services<br />
were all duly done ; whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> Temple-servants were carefully<br />
selected and cared for ; whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> public works ° <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Shrine's noble structures were duly attended to ;<br />
whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong><br />
flower gardens ° attached to <strong>the</strong> Temple were properly tended<br />
and conserved ; and whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> land " and o<strong>the</strong>r properties<br />
