been spent withont this Blessed Vision, and (6) feelings <strong>of</strong><br />
bliss overflowing :— in streams <strong>of</strong> loving tears, at <strong>the</strong> fascinating<br />
sight he enjoyed ' O Blissful God ' exclaimed he, many days<br />

have I lost in <strong>the</strong> vain pursuits <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> world.<br />
Now I have seen Thee reclining on Thy SSsha.'<br />
for evermore.<br />
I mourn for this.<br />
I serve Thee<br />
I find myself reclaimed from <strong>the</strong> death <strong>of</strong> worldly<br />
enjoyments, and initiated into <strong>the</strong> life <strong>of</strong> Thy service.<br />

Sons and wives, cattle and houses,—<br />

After this, a determination came to him to renounce <strong>the</strong><br />
world, and don <strong>the</strong> robes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sanyjisin, inasmuch as <strong>the</strong> love<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> world and <strong>of</strong> God were incompatible with each o<strong>the</strong>r.<br />
Thenceforward he devoted himself to divine contemplation<br />
and service.<br />
Alavand sir's spiritual fame attracted to hini many disciples,<br />
<strong>of</strong> whom <strong>the</strong> following were notable :—Periya-Nambi, Tirukkottiyur-Nambi,<br />
Periya-tirumalai Nambi, Mfiraneri-Nambi,<br />
Tiruk-kacchi-Nambi, Alavand5r-Azhvar, TirumAlai-y-andan,<br />
Vfiinamamalai-y-Jtndan, Taiva-v8lri-y-and4n, Isan-3>nd§.n, Jiyaranditn,<br />
Tiruk-kurugilr-Appan, Tii-umohur-Appan, Tirnmohurmisratn,<br />
Taiva-p-perumftl, Vakul-abharana-Somayajiyar, Tiruk-kurugur-dasar,<br />
TirumEil-iruiijolai-dasar, Vada-madui-ai-pirandar,<br />
Alkondi-ammangi, twenty in all. They were all learned<br />
and became evangelists as well <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faith.<br />
