Rainanuja was sore at hea.rt at Kurfesa's liaving become<br />

blind. One day, he called him anxiously to his side and<br />

said:— " Son, beloved ! Lord Varada <strong>of</strong> Kanchi is, as we know,<br />

a ready granter <strong>of</strong> wishes. I enjoin <strong>the</strong>e to sing a hymn to<br />

Him to bestow sight on <strong>the</strong>e a^gain." " Sire," submitted KuiSsa,<br />

" this niatei'ial sight, I desire not." " But, beloved, do as I<br />

desire," <strong>of</strong>ten exhorted Eamanuja. Kur^Sa accordingly sang<br />

<strong>the</strong> hymn khown as Vaiadardja-stava—one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> five stavas—<br />

beginning with :<br />

Hari ! who deck <strong>the</strong> top <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Hasti-Hill, whom tlie Vedas<br />

declare as to have nei<strong>the</strong>r equal nor superior, "bless me.' And<br />

in <strong>the</strong> twenty -third stanza, he prayed :<br />

Hasti-Lord <strong>of</strong> bluish hue ! Recliner on Ananta 1 I beseecli<br />

'<br />

Thee to ever let my sight Fee Thy bewitching beauty.' That<br />

very night, <strong>the</strong> Lord appeared in his dream and said granted,"<br />

:<br />

Kui€sa rose next morning with a joyful heart, and after performing<br />

<strong>the</strong> day's ablutions, &c., finished <strong>the</strong> stava, and proceeding<br />

to Ramanuja, repeated before him <strong>the</strong> whole stava, and<br />

said :— " Sire, <strong>the</strong> previous night, <strong>the</strong> Lord appeared in mj<br />

dream and he has granted me such spiritual sight as is able<br />

ever to enjoy his Beatific Vision—Vision such as obtains in<br />

Vaikuntha, according to <strong>the</strong> verse :<br />
