3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) 235Table 5-6 Downlink LTE peak data rates in FDD and TDD [4]Peak data rate Spectrum efficiency(Mbit/s in 20 MHz channel) (bit/s/Hz)Requirement 100 5.02 × 2 MIMO, 64-QAM 172.8 8.64 × 4 MIMO, 64-QAM 326.4 16.3Table 5-7 Uplink LTE peak data rates in FDD and TDD [4]Peak data rate Spectrum efficiency(Mbit/s in 20 MHz channel) (bit/s/Hz)Requirement 50 2.51 Tx antenna, 16-QAM 57.8 2.91 Tx antenna, 64-QAM 86.4 4.35.2.11 Performance5.2.11.1 Peak Data RateThe peak data rates achievable with LTE in the FDD and TDD modes are summarizedin Table 5-6 for the downlink and in Table 5-7 for the uplink. Reductions in the data ratedue to reference signals and the control channel are taken into account in the presentedfigures. It can be observed that the achievable data rates and spectrum efficiency exceedsthe minimum requirements for the LTE standardization.5.2.11.2 User ThroughputTable 5-8 and Table 5-9 show the mean and cell-edge user throughput for the LTE downlinkwith inter-site distances of 500 m and 1732 m respectively. The mobility of the mobileuser is 3 km/h. The results are presented relative to baseline UTRA (Release 6). It can beobserved that the required increase of mean user throughput of 3–4 times compared tothat of UTRA and of cell-edge user throughput of 2–3 times compared to that of UTRAis met. The results are presented for single-user MIMO (SU-MIMO) schemes. Furtherthroughput improvements can be expected with multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO).The mean and cell-edge user throughput for the LTE uplink are presented for inter-sitedistances of 500 m and 1732 m in Table 5-10 and Table 5-11 respectively. The resultsare presented relative to baseline UTRA. It can be observed that the required increase ofmean and cell user throughput of 2–3 times compared to that of UTRA is met. Resultsfor single-antenna transmission with two and four receive antennas and 2 × 2 SU-MIMOare shown.5.2.11.3 Spectrum Efficiency per CellThe spectrum efficiency achievable with LTE per cell is shown in Table 5-12 andTable 5-13 for the downlink with inter-site distances of 500 m and 1732 m respectively.
