2METERCENTERSMeter CentersModular Metering: IntroductionSiemens Modular Metering can beadapted to almost every requirement inresidential and commercial groupmetering applications. The design ofeach module was completed with easyhandling, fast installation, and simplifiedlayout in mind. The complete line can be furnished forsingle phase three wire 120/240V ACand three phase, four wire 120/Y208VAC. Meter modules containing threephase thru bussing and three phasetenant mains are also rated for 240V ACDelta Systems. All service entrancedevices are rated for 240V AC Max.The incoming utility service can beterminated in breaker, switch, or tap box“service entrance modules”. Tap boxesmay be used when the total number ofmeters is 6 or less. For those areas thatneed to meet EUSERC requirements forunderground feed a separate pullbox isavailable to attach to breaker devices upto 1200amps. Switch devices with anintegral pullbox are available up to800amps.All 200amp meter modules offer shortcircuit ratings up to 100,000A IR.Modules are available to meet the widevariety of bypass requirements fromutilities nationwide including hornbypass, lever bypass, and test blockbypass. Residential modules (those withno bypass or horn bypass) are availablein 2-6 positions. Commercial moduleswith a lever bypass are available in 1-4positions. Commercial modules with atest block bypass are available in 1-3positions.All 320amp meter modules offer shortcircuit ratings up to 42,000A IR if fullyrated. Higher ratings may be achievedthru series ratings and are dependentupon the breaker used as the servicedisconnect.ResidentialModuleBreakerModulePull BoxModuleLever BypassModuleGeneralSwitchModuleTap BoxModuleText BlockBypass ModuleFeaturesSingle Bolt JointThe time-saving single bolt joint (SBJ)provides for a single electrical connectionbetween meter modules- a Siemensexclusive feature. The SBJ slips into onemodule with the adjacent unit beingdrawn towards it. The SBJ locks intoplace via a bracket on the back of eachmodule- this keeps the SBJ stationaryand is the primary means of groundingbetween modules.Beveled edges on the SBJ allow for easypositioning of the joint. Field installedstuds are located just above and belowthe SBJ opening to compress thesurrounding gaskets together to form awater-tight seal. For extra stabilityadditional nuts and bolts are included asa means of physically joining the meterstacks together both above and belowthe SBJ opening.Bus ConstructionUn-metered bus issurrounded by a barrierand all in-accessible busconnections are weldedfor maximum strength. Allother connections- singlebolt joint and metersocket connections, arebolted and accessible.Neutral & Ground ProvisionsGrounds and Neutrals arelocated on the bottomend of the metermodules. All groundsand neutrals may be relocatedto the top of theenclosure if a top-exit isneeded (A siemensexclusive feature). Each meter modulehas small indents to help locate a fieldcutknockout if a top exit is preferred.Tenant Breaker ProvisionsEach single phase 200amp meter sockethas a provision for a 4-pole plug-in typeQPP circuit breaker. A 2-pole plug-in125amp max may be used in thesepositions with the use of a filler plate. No other conversion kits are necessaryfor this transition. Each single phase125amp meter socket has a provision fora 2-pole plug-in type QP circuit breaker. Each breaker is adjacent to each meterposition. Generous gutter space allowsfor wiring from top, bottom, or back ofthe meter module. Each meter cover isembossed to provide a location for theunit (apartment) number.2-38Siemens Power Distribution & Control, SPEEDFAX 2007-2008 Product Catalog
