EFFECT OF THE MPA ON GENDER RELATIONS IN THE COMMUNITYAchieving Sustained Sanitationfor the Poor 51MPA application for policy research studies in Indonesia, Cambodia, VietnamMPA assessments werecarried out in selectedcommunities in three EastAsian countries, using acommon set of samplingcriteria, a commonsequence of tools <strong>and</strong>methods of analysis. Thepurpose of theassessments was toidentify what helps orhinders dem<strong>and</strong>s forsanitation facilities in ruralcommunities, whatcontributes to sustainingsanitation services oncecreated, <strong>and</strong> how to reach the poor with sustainedsanitation services. All three studies were conductedby country teams trained <strong>and</strong> assisted technicallyby WSP-EAP, as a part of WSP-EAP’s policy reform<strong>and</strong> sector strategy development work with countrypartners. The learning gained in each country wasintegrated with national sector strategies beingdeveloped.51 The following country reports <strong>and</strong> a regional synthesis from the 3 countries are available from WSP - EastAsia <strong>and</strong> the Pacific, or the WSP website www.wsp.org.
