Laying:The approximate positions of all fittings should generally be shown on theplans but it will be the sole responsibility of the contractor to ascertain thework on the spot <strong>and</strong> the exact position where each fitting is to be fixedshould be got approved from the concerned official before carrying out thework.Testing of materials:The contractor, on completion, or during the execution of the work shallprove that all materials, pipes, fittings, joints etc. are clean, perfect inworking conditions <strong>and</strong> strong enough to withst<strong>and</strong> the test as specifiedhere-in-under/in the relevant IS codes of different items. For this purposethe contractor at his own expense, shall provide all instruments <strong>and</strong> suitableappliances <strong>and</strong> carry out the necessary test before the Engineer-in-Chargeor his representative to his entire satisfaction. The contractor shall rectifyany defects as to the materials or workmanship, so noticed, <strong>and</strong> thedefective portions re-tested at his expense. Until such time 10% of the billamount shall be withheld from the contractor's running bill <strong>and</strong> same will bereleased only after testing, up to the entire satisfaction of the Engineer-in-Charge.<strong>Specifications</strong>:Work shall be executed in accordance with the specifications given in thisschedule <strong>and</strong> the specifications attached with the 'Notice Inviting Tenders'the 'Contract Agreement' will take precedence <strong>and</strong> the decision of theauthority, sanctioning the tender, shall be binding <strong>and</strong> final.The materials such as pipes specials, valves etc either supply by local bodyor by the contractor should conform to the specification mentioned in theschedule of rates given in following chapter <strong>and</strong> should in variably shouldconform to the relevant I.S. St<strong>and</strong>ards, B.S. st<strong>and</strong>ards/ material of bestquality available in the market shall only to be used.In all cases the latest revision of the IS Codes shall be referred to. Ifrequirements of these specifications conflict with the requirements of thest<strong>and</strong>ards/codes, st<strong>and</strong>ards/codes shall govern.Civil works:It shall be done as per specification given in chapter 15 <strong>and</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ard IScode in practice.Excise Duty: As per prevailing excise duty norms there is excise duty exemption oncertain diameter of <strong>Water</strong> <strong>Supply</strong> Pipes of different material class. All thoughin the computation of item rates for pipes, the rates are inclusive ofexcise duty but excise duty exemption shall be obtained as perprevailing rules for such pipes. This benefit shall be availed by the localbodies. All the concerned officers shall be responsible to get all theexemptions of such taxes <strong>and</strong> duties.Cleat:A short member of shoring <strong>and</strong> timbering which directly resists the downwardmovement of strut or wale.Sheathing:Urban Administration & Development Department Page 8
