8.22 Test to Establish Perfectibility/portability of workSpecimen of pipe shall be tested to establish the suitability for use in carryingportable water(i) Smell of the extract(ii) Clarity of the colour of the extract(iii) Acidity and Alkality(iv) Global migration UV absorbing material Heavy metals(v) Unreacted monomers (styrens) and biological tests8.23 Hydraulic TestAfter laying the pipe hydraulic test shall be done to conform the quality of workand material. There shall not be any signs of localized swelling, leakage orweeping. It should conform to IS : 4984 & IS 7634.8.24 MeasurementThe net length of fixed pipe shall be measured in running meters correct to acm. The portion of the pipe inside the joints shell not be included in the lengthof pipe work. Specials shall be excluded and measured and paid separatelyunder the relevant item.8.25 RatesThe rate shall include the cast of the material and labour involve in all theoperation describe in the item.8.26 MDPE Pipes & Specials8.26.1 Scope8.26.1.1 This specification covers the requirements for successfully designing,manufacturing, supplying, laying, jointing and testing at works and site ofMedium Density Polyethylene Pipes used for water supply upto 50mm diapipes.8.26.2 Applicable Codes8.26.2.1 The manufacturing, testing, supplying, laying, jointing and testing at work sitesof MDPE pipes shall comply with all currently applicable statutes, regulations,standards and Codes. In particulars, the following standards, unless otherwisespecified herein, shall be referred. In all cases the latest revision of the Codesshall be referred to. IS 10141IS 10146intended to come into contact with foodstuffs.Positive list of constituents of polyethylene in contact with foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals and drinking water.Polyethylene for its safe use in contact with foodstuff,Pharmaceuticals and drinking water.8.26.3 Colour8.26.3.1 The colour of the pipe shall be blue.8.26.4 Materials8.26.4.1 The material used for the manufacturer of pipes should not constitute toxicityhazard, should not support microbial growth, should not given rise tounpleasant taste or odour, cloudiness or discoloration of water.8.26.4.2 Pipe manufacturers shall obtain a certificate to this effect from themanufacturers of raw material by any internationally reputed organization asper the satisfaction of the engineer in charge.8.26.4.3 No addition of Reworked/Recycled Material from any source including theown rework material resulting from the manufacture of pipes isallowed and the vendor is required to use only 100% virgin resin compound.8.26.5 Jointing of Pipes8.26.5.1 The pipe shall have a jointing system that shall provide for fluid tightness forthe intended service conditions. Appropriate jointing for MDPE pipe as per ISO4427 & ISO 14236 shall be selected considering the existing working condition,pressure and flow of liquids.8.26.6 Compression Fittings8.26.6.1 The Compression fitting should be as per following guidelines :8.26.6.1.1 The body of the compression fittings should be made from Poly Propylene.8.26.6.1.2 Compression fittings should be manufactured in accordance with ISO 14236 foruse with HDPE/MDPE/GI pipes.8.26.6.1.3 All types of compression fittings shall be certified by the Internationallaboratories like KIWA, DVGW and WRC for drinking water usage.8.26.6.1.4 The fitting body shall be opaque. The composition of the plastics parts exposedto sun/ultra-violet radiation shall include UV stabilizer.8.26.6.1.5 The minimum bore of the fittings shall be such that there shall be noobstruction for the passage of water from the pipe to pipe fitting.8.26.6.1.6 The fittings shall conform to the requirements for leak tightness for 1 hour whenthe pipe and fittings are assembled and hydraulically tested to the workingpressure of the pipe.8.26.6.2 The material used for manufacture of Compression Fittings and the material ofthe PP fitting components, which are in contact with the water, shall not containtoxic additives. The PP compression fittings shall be certified by theInternational laboratories like KIWAQ, DVGW and WRC for drinking waterusage.
