All exposed machined ferrous surfaces shall be painted withone coat of aluminum red oxide primer conforming to IS 5660.6.2.7.2 Two coats of black japan conforming to Type B of IS 341 or paint conforming toIS 9862 or IS 2932 shall be applied by brush or spray for exterior application incolour as approved by the purchaser.6.2.8 Marking6.2.8.1 The following information shall be cast on each valve body in raised letters.(a)-mark:(b) The nominal pressure of valve (PN 1.0 or PN 1.6);(c) Size of valve (mm);(d) Heat number of cast;(e) Year of manufacture;In addition each valve shall bear conspicuously upon it prior to dispatch;(f) Serial number in puch, on top of flanges: <strong>and</strong>(g) Where a valve has been tested for only opendistinctly<strong>and</strong> permanently on flanges adjacent to serial number.6.2.8.2 Each sluice valve shall be marked with the St<strong>and</strong>ard Mark.6.2.9 Installation of sluice valves:6.2.9.1 Sluice valves shall normally be installed with spindle vertical on horizontalpipes except on vertical pipes spindle shall be horizontal. On slopes, the sluicevalves may preferably be kept vertical if slope is nominal <strong>and</strong> gradient can beadjusted with the help of connecting pipes on either sides.6.2.9.1.1 It shall be ensured while fixing sluice valves in pipe line below ground level thata clear space of about 200 mm is available between the top of the sluice valvespindle <strong>and</strong> surface box, so that valve cap may be easily provided whensurface box is kept in flush with road level.6.2.9.2 It is most important to ensure that:a) All grit <strong>and</strong> foreign matters are removed from the inside of thevalves before placing in pipes, <strong>and</strong>b) All the four faces are thoroughly cleaned <strong>and</strong> coated with a thin layerof mineral grease.6.2.9.3 It is important to check tightening of gl<strong>and</strong> with a pair of inside calipers.Clearance between the top of the stuffing box <strong>and</strong> the underside of the gl<strong>and</strong>should be uniform on all the sides.6.2.9.4 Gl<strong>and</strong> should not be tightened too hard. The pressure applied should be justenough to stanch leakage.6.2.9.5 Hemp packing should be adequately soaked in grease <strong>and</strong> should not beallowed to remain dry.Urban Administration & Development Department Page 66
