9.4.1 Coupling Area of jointThis is the space inside the socket in which the rubber ring gasket operates.9.4.2 GrooveThis is a seating made by turning to lodge the rubber ring gasket. It possessesthe section laid down in the design <strong>and</strong> is machined at one end of each pipesection or in the coupling as the case may be.9.4.3 Pipe ZoneIt is the trench cross section area from the bottom of the pipe to a minimum of300 mm above the top of the pipe <strong>and</strong> is filled with sound granular soil.9.4.4 Ring deflectionIt means an out of round condition not exceeding 5 % of the diameter of a pipesection as a result of external loads imposed upon it.9.4.5 Rubber Ring Gasket or packingThis is a rubber ring having the section, diameters <strong>and</strong> hardness specified bythe design <strong>and</strong> forms the hydraulic seal for the pipes9.5 Workmanship9.5.1 Pipe shall be free from all defect including indentation, delimitation, bubbles,pinholes, cracks, pits, blisters, foreign inclusion <strong>and</strong> resin starved areas thatdue to their nature degree or extent detrimentally affect the strength <strong>and</strong>serviceability of the pipe. The pipe shall be as uniform as commerciallypracticable in colour opacity, density <strong>and</strong> other physical properties as perASTM 2563, BS 5480 & IS 12709.9.5.2 The inside surface of each pipe shall be free of bulges, dents, ridges <strong>and</strong> otherdefects that result in a variation of inside diameter of more than 3.2 mm fromthat obtained on adjacent unaffected portions of the surface. No glass fiberreinforcement shall penetrate the interior surface of the pipe wall.9.5.3 Pipes for used for sewerage, Industrial waste <strong>and</strong> water (Other than Potable)shall be as per IS 14402 : 1996.
