CHAPTER NO.1CAST IRON SOCKET AND SPIGOT PIPES AND SPECIAL WITHLEAD JOINTS1.1 ScopeThis Specification covers the requirements of supplying, laying, jointing <strong>and</strong>testing centrifugally cast (spun) iron pipe for pressure main line of water supply<strong>and</strong> sewerage1.2 Applicable CodesThe laying of CI pipes <strong>and</strong> fittings / specials shall comply with all currentlyapplicable statutes, regulations, st<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>and</strong> codes. In particular thefollowing st<strong>and</strong>ards, unless otherwise specified herein, shall be referred. In allcases, the latest revision of the st<strong>and</strong>ards/codes shall be referred to. The spun iron pipes shall be ofcast iron cast centrifugally <strong>and</strong> vary in diameters from 80mm to 1050mm.These shall be of class LA, class A <strong>and</strong> class B, as specified. Each pipe shallhave the following marks either cast, stamped or indelibly painted on it.Marking may be done on the socket faces of pipe centrifugally cast in metalmould or on the outside of the socket or on the barrel of pipe centrifugally castin s<strong>and</strong> mould.(i)(ii) The nominal diameter;(iii) Class reference;(iv) The last two digits of the year of manufacture.1.4 Dimensions of uncoated socket <strong>and</strong> barrel of lead joint pipes are given in table1.2 (Refer table 6 : IS 1536:2001) for class LA table 1.3 ( Refer table 7 : IS1536:2001) for class A <strong>and</strong> table 1.4 ( Refer table 8 : IS 1536:2001) for classB.Urban Administration & Development Department Page 10
