CHAPTER -7GALVANIZED IRON PIPES, SPECIALS AND GUNMETAL/BRASS METAL FITTINGS7.1 Applicable codesThe laying of GI pipes <strong>and</strong> fittings / specials shall comply with all currentlyapplicable statutes, regulations, st<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>and</strong> codes. In particular thefollowing st<strong>and</strong>ards, unless otherwise specified herein, shall be referred. In allcases, the latest revision of the st<strong>and</strong>ards/codes shall be referred to. Other IS:Codes not specifically mentioned here but pertaining to the use of GI pipes,fittings & specials shall be part of this Specification.I.S. NumberTable No. 7.1TitleIS: 1239 (PT-1): 2004 Mild steel tubes, tubular, <strong>and</strong> other wrought steel fittings,part 1 mild steel tubes.IS: 1239 (PT-II): 1992 -- Do part 2 mild steel tubular <strong>and</strong> other wrought steelpipe fittings.IS: 1978: 1982Line pipesIS: 4736: 1986Hot-dip zinc coatings on mild steel tubes.IS 778: 1984Copper alloy gates, globe <strong>and</strong> check valves for waterworks purposes.IS 2692: 1989Ferrules for water services.7.2 Gate valve as per IS: 778-19847.2.1 A valve through which the flow of fluid is controlled by means of a gate in theform of a wedge or disc between the body ends which are in line with eachother; the gate is actuated by a stem whose axis is at right angles to that of thebody ends. In the gate valves, the fluid pressure acts on one side of the gate<strong>and</strong> there is no change in the direction of flow.7.2.2 Globe valve (or Screw down stop valve)(See Drawing No.-6)A valve having generally a spherical body in which the body ends are in linewith each other <strong>and</strong> the disc is lifted from or lowered on to the body seat by astem whose axis is at right angles to that of the body ends. In globe valves, thepressure acts on the underside of the valve disc <strong>and</strong> there is a change ofdirection of flow inside the valve body.7.2.3 Angle valveA valve having generally a spherical body in which the body ends are at rightangles to each other <strong>and</strong> the disc is lifted from or lowered the body seat by astem whose axis is in line with that of one body end.Urban Administration & Development Department Page 74
