9.19.4 Straight continues lengths of pipe may be lifted at one point. However, owing toits very smooth surface it is usually safer for the pipe to be lifted at two points.9.19.5 Pipe assemblies fabricated in multiple sections or special places shall be liftedwith two or more lifting points.9.19.6 Pipes shall not be dropped to avoid impact or bump. It shall be done regularly as installation proceeds.Installation should never exceed testing by more than 1 km.9.20.2 Leak detection testing shall be carried out at a test pressure corresponding to1.5 times the pressure class of the pipe/fittings. The test pressure shall bemaintained for a period of 24 hours. Each full length pipe section, fittings andjoint shall be leak tight.9.21 MeasurementThe net length of pipes as laid or fixed shall be measured in running meterscorrect to a cm. specials shall be excluded and measured and paid separatelyunder the relevant item. The portion of the pipe at the joints (inside the joints)shall not be included in the length of pipe work. Excavation, refilling, masonryand concrete work wherever required shall be measured and paid forseparately under relevant item of work.9.22 RatesThe rate shall include the cast of the material and labour involved in all theoperation described in the item.Urban Administration & Development Department Page 110
CHAPTER -10ASBESTOS CEMENT PRESSURE PIPES, JOINTS AND FITTINGS FOR WATER SUPPLYAND ACP PIPES AND FITTING FOR SEWERAGE10.1 Applicable Code:The laying of ACP pipes and fittings / specials shall comply with all currentlyapplicable statutes, regulations, standards and codes. In particular thefollowing standards, unless otherwise specified herein, shall be referred. In allcases, the latest revision of the standards/codes shall be referred to. Other IS:Codes not specifically mentioned here but pertaining to the use of ACP pipes,fittings & specials shall be part of this Specification.Table No.10.1IS: 1592 -2003 Code of practice for asbestos cement pressure pipes and jointsIS:5531 -1988 Specification for cast iron specials for asbestos cementpressure pipesIS : 6908-1991:- Asbestos Cement Pipes and Fittings for Sewerage andDrainageIS:6530 1972 Code of practice for laying of asbestos cement pressure pipeIS: 5382- 1985 Rubber rings for water mains, sewer mains and gas mainsIS: 8794 1988 Detachable joints for AC pressure pipesIS: 10292- 1988 Rubber rings for detachable joints for AC pressure pipes10.2 Manufacturing Process of Asbestos Cement Pressure Pipes10.2.1 Asbestos cement pressure pipes shall be made from a thorough andhomogeneous mixture of asbestos fiber and 33 grade ordinary Portland cementconforming to IS 269 or 43 grade ordinary Portland cement conforming to IS8112 or 53 grade ordinary Portland cement conforming to IS 12269.The Mazza process employs vat and sieve cylinder for converting AsbestosCement slurry into thin lamina ranging between 0.25mm to 0.35mm thickness.The lamina so formed is then transferred to an endless synthetic felt whichmoves over powerful vacuum boxes to facilitate dewatering of individual laminato a desired level. The dewatered lamina is then wrapped on a hollow steelcylinder called mandrel under a high pressure ranging between 60Kg/Cm 2 to25Kg/Cm 2 . The pipes are dried in a heating tunnel having temperature 70 0Centigrade to 90 0 Centigrade before extraction of the mandrel so as to preventdeformation of the pipes.10.2.2 Classification10.2.2.1 Pipes of nominal diameter up to 1000 are classified according to the workshydraulic test pressure given in Table No.10.2.Urban Administration & Development Department Page 111
