15.17.5.19. Wherever a socket or collar of pipe or fitting / special occurs a grip is to be cutin the bottom of the trench or concrete bed to a depth of at least 75 mm belowthe bed of the pipe so that the pipe may have a fair bearing on its shaft <strong>and</strong>does not rest upon its socket. Such grip shall be of sufficient size in everyrespect to admit the h<strong>and</strong>, all around the socket in order to make the joint <strong>and</strong>the grip shall be maintained clear until the joint has been tested.15.17.5.20. When welding is to be carried out with the pipes <strong>and</strong> special in the trench,additional excavation of not more than 60 cm in depth <strong>and</strong> 90 cm in length shallbe made at joints in order to facilitate welding15.17.5.21. The excess excavated material shall be carried away from site of works to aplace up to a distance as directed by Engineer. This shall be done immediatelyso as not to cause any inconvenience to the public or traffic.15.17.5.21.1 If the instruction from Engineer are not implemented within seven days fromthe date of instructions to cart the materials <strong>and</strong> to clear the site, the same shalldispute shall not be entertained in this respect.15.17.5.22 Refilling of trenches, where the excavation is in rock shall be with the surplussoft soil from pits located within 200 meters from the reach in question.15.17.5.23 It is to be distinctly understood that no extra payment shall be made for theexcavation from borrow pits located with in 200 meters for obtaining earth forrefilling, any instructions of the Engineer to bring earth from beyond 200 metersfor refilling shall be detailed in writing <strong>and</strong> a separate extra payment shall bemade for the additional conveyance. No. payment shall be made for disposal ofsoil for excavation, surplus to or unsuitable for filling.15.17.6 Work included in Excavation15.17.6.1 Following items are included in the excavation unless otherwise directed.15.17.6.2 Removing all surface obstructions including shrubs, jungle etc.,15.17.6.3. Making all necessary excavations true to line <strong>and</strong> grade,15.17.6.4 Furnishing <strong>and</strong> installing all shoring <strong>and</strong> bracing as necessary or as directed,15.17.6.5 Pumping <strong>and</strong> bailing out water to keep trenches free of water during pipe laying<strong>and</strong> jointing <strong>and</strong> thereafter until joints mature,15.17.6.6 Providing for uninterrupted surface water flow during work in progress,15.17.6.7 Providing for disposing off water flows from storm, drains, nallas or othersources, suitably,15.17.6.8 Protecting all pipes, conduits, culverts, railway tracks, utility poles, wire fences,buildings, <strong>and</strong> other public <strong>and</strong> private property adjacent to or in the line orwork,Urban Administration & Development Department Page 188
