13.9.2.2 Slightly dampened mix of cement <strong>and</strong> s<strong>and</strong> (1:2) shall be rammed with caulkingirons into the space between the pipe <strong>and</strong> the collar from both sides of thecollar.13.9.2.3 Jointing material shall be added <strong>and</strong> caulked until the space of joint has beencompletely filled with tightly caulked mortar.13.9.2.4 The joint shall be neatly finished in level with the collar edge.13.9.2.5 The section of the pipe shall be jointing together in such a manner that thereshall be as little unevenness as possible along the inside of the pipe.13.9.2.6 Every joint shall be kept wet for about ten days for maturing. The section of thepipe line laid <strong>and</strong> jointed shall be covered immediately to protect it fromweather effects. A minimum cost of 10 CM is considered adequate. The jointmay be kept exposed for observation.13.10 Cleaning of pipes13.10.1 As soon as a stretch of RCC pipes has been laid complete from manhole tomanhole or for a stretch as directed by Engineer. Contractor shall run throughthe pipes both backwards <strong>and</strong> forwards a double disc or solid or closed cylinder75 mm less in diameter than the internal diameter of pipes. The open end of anincomplete stretch of pipe line shall be securely closed to prevent entry of mud,silt etc.13.10.2 If as a result of the removal of any obstruction Engineer in-charge considersthat damages may have been caused to the pipe lines he shall be entitled toorder the stretch to be tested immediately. If the test prove unsatisfactorycontractor shall amend the work <strong>and</strong> carry such further tests, as ordered bythe Engineer.13.10.3 It shall be ascertained by the contractor that each stretch from manhole tomanhole or the stretch as directed by the engineer in-charge is absolutely clear<strong>and</strong> without any obstruction by means of visual examination of the interior ofthe pipe line suitably enlightened by projected sun light or other means.13.11 Testing at work site :-13.11.1 Each section of sewer shall be tested for water tightness preferably betweenmain holes. In case of cement mortar joints, the sewer line shall be tested threedays after the cement mortar joints have been made.13.11.2 The pipe line shall be filled with water for about a week before commencing theapplication of pressure to allow for the absorption by pipe wall.13.11.3 The pipe line shall be tested by plugging the upper end with a provision for anair outlet pipe with stop cock.Urban Administration & Development Department Page 155
