Adequate <strong>and</strong> proper expansion joints shall beprovided, wherever necessary.13.8.7 The sections of the pipe shall be joined together in such a manner that thereshall be as little unevenness as possible along the inside of the pipe.13.8.8 In case where the foundation conditions are unusual, such as in the proximityof trees or poles, under existing or proposed tracks, under manholes, etc, thepipe shall be encased in low strength concrete bedding or compacted s<strong>and</strong> orgravel.13.8.9 In place where the natural foundation is inadequate, the pipes shall be laideither in a concrete cradle supported on proper foundations or on any othersuitably designed structure.13.8.9.1 If concrete cradle bedding is used, the depth of concrete below the bottom ofthe pipe shall be at least one-fourth of the internal diameter of the pipe subjectto a minimum of 10 cm <strong>and</strong> a maximum of 30 cm.13.8.9.2 The concrete shall extend up the sides of the pipe at least to a distance of onefourthof the outside diameter for pipes 30 cm <strong>and</strong> over in diameter. The pipeshall be laid in this concrete bedding before the concrete has set.13.8.10 Pipes laid in trench in earth shall be bedded evenly <strong>and</strong> firmly <strong>and</strong> as far up thehaunches of the pipes as to safely transmit the load expected from the backfillthrough the pipe to the bed.13.8.10.1 This shall be done either by excavating the bottom to the trench to fit the curveof the pipe to form an even bed. Necessary provision shall be made for jointswherever required.13.9 Jointing of pipes:(See Drawing No.-10)13.9.1 Spigot <strong>and</strong> socket joint-this joint is composed of specially shaped spigot <strong>and</strong>socket ends on the RCC pipes. The RCC pipe with the rubber ring accuratelypositioned on the spigot shall be pushed well home into the socket of thepreviously laid pipes.13.9.1.1instructions shall be deemed to form a part of this Specification. The rubberrings shall be lubricated before making the joint <strong>and</strong> the lubricant shall be softsoap water or an approved lubricant supplied by the manufacturer.13.9.2 Collar joints (for existing sewer lines or were rubber ring joints can not beprovided)13.9.2.1 The jointing material for collar joints shall be cement <strong>and</strong> s<strong>and</strong> in the proportionof 1:2Urban Administration & Development Department Page 154
