Excavation, refilling, masonry and concrete work (asrequired) shall be measured and paid for separately under relevant item ofwork.10.21 Rates :10.21.1 The rate shall include the cast of the material and labour involve in all theoperation describe in the item.10.22 Asbestos Cement Pipes and Fittings for Sewerage and Drainage IS :6908-1991:-10.22.1 Pipes :- The Pipes shall be made from a thorough and homogeneous mixtureof clean asbestos fiber, 33 grade ordinary Portland cement conforming to IS :269 : 1989 or Portland slag cement conforming to IS 455:1989 or Portlandpozzolana cement conforming to IS 1489:1976, and water. Addition of siliceousfiller is also permissible.The Mazza process employs vat and sieve cylinder for converting AsbestosCement slurry into thin lamina ranging between 0.25mm to 0.35mm thickness.The lamina so formed is then transferred to an endless synthetic felt whichmoves over powerful vacuum boxes to facilitate dewatering of individual laminato a desired level. The dewatered lamina is then wrapped on a hollow steelcylinder called mandrel under a high pressure ranging between 60Kg/Cm 2 to25Kg/Cm 2 . The pipes are dried in a heating tunnel having temperature 70 0Centigrade to 90 0 Centigrade before extraction of the mandrel so as to preventdeformation of the pipes.10.22.2 The pipes shall be seamless, compact and homogeneous. Their internalsurface shall be regular and smooth.10.23. Classification :The pipes shall be classified according to their crushing strength as under:Class 1 60 kN/m 2Class 2 90 kN/m 2Class - 3 120 kN/m 210.24 Thickness:10.24.1 The nominal thickness of the pipes is the thickness of the barrel of the pipe,excluding the machined ends.10.24.2 The thickness of the barrel of the pipes may be verified from test piecessampled from transverse crushing test.Urban Administration & Development Department Page 126
10.24.3 Where pipe ends are not machined, the thickness of the barrel of the pipesshall be measured at a distance not less than 100mm from the ends.10.25 Length :10.25.1 The nominal length of the pipes should preferably be not less than 3m for pipeswith a nominal diameter equal to or less then 200mm and 4m for pipes with anominal diameter exceeding 200mm.10.26 Tests shall be conducted for Physical Mechanical and Chemical characteristicsas under :-10.26.1 Hydraulic test10.26.2 Transverse Crushing Strength10.26.3 Longitudinal Bending Strength10.26.4 Acid Resistance Test10.27 Fittings10.27.1 CompositionThe fittings shall comply with the requirements of clause 10.22.1.10.27.2 The basic types of fittings are bends, angle junctions, equal or unequal teesdouble sockets, sleeves and saddles.10.27.3 The nominal diameter of the fittings shall correspond to the nominal diametersof the pipes.10.27.4 The thickness of the barrel of the fittings shall be a least equal to that specifiedby the manufacturer for the corresponding pipe.10.27.5 The variation of the internal diameter shall be same as for the correspondingpipes.10.27.6 The tolerance on the nominal thickness of the fittings shall be as under :Upper deviation : FreeLower deviation : - 1.5mm10.27.7 Tests shall be conducted for Physical Mechanical and Chemical characteristicsas under :-10.27.7.1 Hydraulic test10.27.7.2 Transverse Crushing Strength10.27.7.3 Acid Resistance Test10.28 Joints : Two types of joints are normally provided with asbestos cement pipesas under :10.28.1 Asbestos cement couplings with rubber sealing rings, and10.28.2 Cast Iron detachable joints with rubber sealing rings and bolts and nuts.10.29 Measurement10.29.1 The net length of pipes as laid or installed shall be measured in running meterscorrect to a cm.
