3.12.3.1 Flanged joints find their application in vertical inlet <strong>and</strong> outlet of pipes of overhead reservoir, suction pipes of pump where perfectly air tight joint is requiredto avoid air being sucked in <strong>and</strong> also where there are vibrations. Flangedjointing is extensively employed for outside work.3.12.3.2 Overhead pipe lines <strong>and</strong> also for connection in vertical <strong>and</strong> confined positions,but are usually not employed for pipe line work below ground like gravity mainsetc. Flange joints are expensive <strong>and</strong> are thus only used for indoor work <strong>and</strong>under other situations requiring the use of flanged joints as mentioned above.3.13 MeasurementThe net length of pipes as laid or fixed should be measured in running meterscorrect to a cm. specials should be excluded <strong>and</strong> enumerated <strong>and</strong> paidseparately. The portion of the pipe within the collar at the joints should not beincluded in the length of pipe work.3.14 RatesThe rate shall include the cast of the material <strong>and</strong> labour involved in all theoperation described in the item.Urban Administration & Development Department Page 41
