From the total quantityof the mixture the quantity of hard rock excavated thus arrived at shall bededucted to work out the quantity of the soft/disintegrated rock excavated.15.6.4 Where hard/dense soil, soft/disintegrated rock <strong>and</strong> hard rock are mixed, themeasurement for the total quantity should be made by methods (18.6.1) <strong>and</strong>/or(18.6.2) given above.15.6.4.1 If possible after the removal of the hard/dense soil the levels of the exposedrocks surface shall be taken <strong>and</strong> the quantity of the hard/dense soil removed,worked out from the difference between the original levels <strong>and</strong> new levels.15.6.4.2 If this is not possible the excavation should be completed leaving tell & tales,<strong>and</strong> from the cross & section of these tall & tales, the area of the hard/densesoil excavated should be shall be worked out <strong>and</strong> then the volume of thehard/dense soil excavated arrived at.15.6.4.3 Quantity of hard/dense soil shall than be deducted from the total quantity ofhard rock <strong>and</strong> soft/disintegrated rock. The quantities of hard rock <strong>and</strong>soft/disintegrated rock should then be separated as in (14.6.3) above bystacking the hard rock separately.15.6.5 Where soft/loose soil, hard/dense soil, soft/disintegrated rock <strong>and</strong> hard rock aremixed, the measurements of the entire quantity shall be made by methods(14.6.1) <strong>and</strong>/or (14.6.2) given above.15.6.5.1 The separate quantities of soft/loose soil <strong>and</strong> hard/dense soil shall be workedout from the cross & section based on dead men or tell-tales as mentioned in(14.6.4) in case of hard/dense soil. The total quantity of soft/loose <strong>and</strong>hard/dense soil shall then be deducted from the total excavation to arrive at thetotal quantity of rock excavated.15.6.5.2 The quantities of soft/disintegrated rock <strong>and</strong> hard rock excavated be workedout separately as in case of (14.6.3) above.15.7 RefillingRefilling <strong>and</strong> ramming of excavated earth where not described with the item ofexcavation shall be measured in cubic meters <strong>and</strong> shall include, spreading inlayers not exceeding 200 mm in depth, watering, well ramming <strong>and</strong> leveling.15.8 Excavation for manholes15.8.1 The excavation for manholes shall be true to dimensions <strong>and</strong> levels show onthe plans or as directed by the Engineer-in-Charge.15.8 S<strong>and</strong>15.8.1 S<strong>and</strong> is the fine aggregate which is obtained either from natural source likeriver bank or from pits etc. S<strong>and</strong> can also be produce by crushing stone orgravels. It should pass through 4.75 mm IS sieve.15.8.2 S<strong>and</strong> should be free from clay, dust or silt. The permissible limit for the same is5 % by weight.15.8.3 S<strong>and</strong> should be free from organic impurities as determined is in accordancewith IS: 2386 (<strong>Part</strong>-II)Urban Administration & Development Department Page 180
