1.3 Beit Lahiyaa rural area, not densely populatedOccupation: 9th Grade studentInjuries: Fracture to L arm with bone and muscletissue loss.Date/time of incident: 24 Jul 2014Location of incident: UNRWA school shelter inBeit HanounCircumstances of injury: On 15 Jul 2014 the familyreceived a warning to leave their house in BeitHanoun and took refuge in the local UNRWA school.On 24 Jul 2014 the school was hit by 15 tank missiles.Others killed/injured in same event: 21 peoplewere killed in the attack including the father of thepatient. About 500 were injured.Evacuation and care inside Gaza: The patient wasevacuated by ambulance. It took more than 30minutes to evacuate due to the ongoing barrage,the great number of victims and the general chaos.He was taken to Beit Hanoun Hospital, but it wasoverwhelmed by the number of injured and dead, sohe was transferred first to Kamal Edwan Hospitaland then to Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, wherehe spent 3-4 days before being referred to theJordanian Hospital in Gaza.Evacuation out of Gaza: At the Jordanian Hospitalin Gaza the patient was selected by a committeeto be sent to Medinat Hussein Al Tibbeya Hospitalin Amman, Jordan. They left Gaza on 6 Aug 2014 ina convoy of 6 ambulances. The trip was long, from14:00 to 23:00. At Erez Crossing the soldier tried toopen the patient’s dressings and to manipulate theexternal fixation; this was extremely painful and hestarted crying and shouting, so the soldier gave up.Comments on displacement: NoneComments on rehabilitation: Several graftoperations and external fixation were performed.Patient was expected to undergo bone transplantafter 6 weeks.
