According to the patient, they knewabout this meeting point because some of thepeople in the group had been in touch with theirfamilies in Abasan by phone and had heard thatambulances were waiting.The patient narrates with great emotion that,on their way through the tanks towards theambulances, a small boy, aged 9 or 10, approachedthem crying, while holding his intestines with hishands, pleading ‘take me with you, take me withyou’, but she was so weak and terrified herself, thatthey ran for their lives leaving the child behind. Thisscene now tortures her, and makes her feel guilty.Quote: ‘He was like my son, the same age. He couldhave been my own son, and I left him there to die’.Others killed/injured in same event: Multiple deathsand injuries throughout the incident, details asnarrated above and in Part C. ‘Khuza’a - focusand site visit’.Evacuation and care inside Gaza: Once she reachedthe ambulance, the patient was evacuated toNasser Hospital in Khan Younis, where her husbandmet her. The husband of the patient (the witness)provides the following details with confirmationfrom the patient:At Nasser Hospital the patient underwent surgeryand a CT scan was done. The doctor said thatthere was internal bleeding, mainly from theliver, and that they had responded with gauze forcompression to stop the haemorrhage. He also saidthat, if coordination to refer her out of Gaza was notarranged within three days, she should have surgeryagain to remove the gauze. Coordination could notbe facilitated in the space of time given, so surgerywas performed again on 27 Jul 2014 to remove thecompression material. The doctor said that furthersurgery would be needed due to shrapnel andextensive internal damage.Evacuation out of Gaza: Referral to St Joseph Hospitalwas facilitated by the Palestinian Ministry of Healthand the permits to enter East Jerusalem throughIsrael were provided through the intervention of thepatient’s former employer, the Palestinian Authority.At the hospital the patient was treated for post201
