The patient’swife had head trauma and the younger of his sonshad head trauma and broken teeth. The mother wasinjured by broken glass in her leg. She is a cancerpatient, who had a mastectomy in Maqassad Hospitalin East Jerusalem four months ago,and chemotherapy.Evacuation and care inside Gaza: Many neighboursand relatives came to help in the evacuation whenthey heard the blast. According to the patient, whenambulances arrived, only his head was emergingfrom the rubble, all his body was buried and hewas unconscious. Ambulances arrived promptlybut couldn’t access the area due to the rubble anddestruction in the street. One of the neighbours,whose relative had been also wounded in the sameattack, managed to reach Shifa Hospital by privatecar and gave instructions to the ambulance drivershow to reach the injured. Many other injured reachedShifa Hospital in private cars. At Shifa Hospital, histreatment included below-the-knee amputation ofthe L leg; multiple debridements and skin grafts; jawreconstruction. The patient remained in coma for 12days after the incident.Evacuation out of Gaza: NoneComments on displacement: The patient is displaced;all the houses belonging to his family are eithercompletely destroyed or uninhabitable.Comments on rehabilitation: The patient will needconstant healthcare post discharge and will notbe able to resume his former occupation. Severalmembers of his extended family were killed indifferent incidents during this war. The patientexperiences severe emotional and physical pain anddistress.
