1.3 Beit LahiyaInjuries: Amputation R leg below knee, fracture of Rfemur with external fixation; severe incapacitatingtrauma to R hand and arm with loss of function;head trauma from shrapnel; open wound in back,requiring 30 stitches; multiple wounds and burns.Date/time of incident: 7 Jul 2014, 07:30Location of incident: On a motorbike on ManshiaStreet, Beit LahiyaCircumstances of injury: The patient [referred to intestimony J11 - Ed.], was attacked on 7 Jul 2014,before the war started. He claims to be the firstvictim of the war. The patient was going to work athis shop in Beit Lahia local market when he saw hisfriend [name redacted, see interview J11 above -Ed.] and gave him a ride on his motorcycle. He didn’tnotice any signs of danger. Suddenly two dronemissiles hit them directly. The patient thinks that hewas targeted intentionally, because the Israeli armysuspects anybody riding a motorcycle and often hitsthem, thinking that they are going to launch rockets.Others killed/injured in same event: The patient’sfriend, to whom he offered a ride on his motorcycle,was injured.Evacuation and care inside Gaza: The patient wasevacuated by ambulance to a local hospital. Dueto the seriousness of his wounds, he was referredimmediately to Shifa Hospital in Gaza city, where heremained for 6 days in ICU in coma.Evacuation out of Gaza: The patient was referredto Amman on 13 Jul 2014, thanks to the donationof the kingdom of Jordan. The procedure at ErezCrossing was fast and smooth. There were 6ambulances in the convoy. The patients were notchecked, only their accompanying relatives, andtransfer was by back-to-back to other ambulances. 4The patient has undergone surgery to fix thefracture on his R leg and several skin grafts. Furthersurgery is needed to remove external fixation.Comments on displacement: The patient’s 5-storyhouse, in which his extended family lived, wasdestroyed during attacks on Beit Hanoun.
