2.3 Shuja’iyaCircumstances of injury: The patient was calledto an attacked house to evacuate the wounded.He had a photojournalist with him, and anotherparamedic called Yousef; they had worked togetherbefore. When they arrived there was heavy shelling.His was the third ambulance to arrive. When afourth arrived a shell struck, right in the middle ofthe 4 ambulances and on the door of his ambulance,killing paramedics and bystanders who had comeout to see what was going on. The patient saw hisleg amputated, he was fully conscious. He did hisown first aid; other paramedics helped to control theheavy bleeding.Others killed/injured in same event: the photojournalistand the ambulance driver of the 3rdambulance were killed, as well as other paramedic/sand bystanders. Others were critically injured.Evacuation and care inside Gaza: The patient wasevacuated to Shifa Hospital where he was rushedto the operating theatre in critical condition dueto blood loss. However, due to the high volume ofinjuries there were no free doctors. Paramedicshelped him until he could be admitted to theoperating theatre. He remained at Shifa Hospitalfor 3 days, receiving blood transfusions, treatmentfor septicaemia. He was then transferred to AlQudsHospital where the care was reported to be good. Six(6) surgical debridements were performed.Evacuation out of Gaza: None. Israel refusedtransfer to Turkey.Comments on displacement: NoneComments on rehabilitation: The patient wantsphysical and emotional rehabilitation in Turkey buthas been refused access. He was financial providerfor his family (wife and 4 children) before theseinjuries and is now permanently disabled. He wantsa prosthetic limb in order to resume his profession.2. Gaza Cityevidence and with testimonies MED1 and MED6/EJM1 regarding the 30 Jul2014 attack on Shuja’iya marketplace at which at least 17 people were killedincluding medics. During the first two minutes of the video, 11consecutive explosions can be heard, at intervals of 10-15 seconds.151
