Mental health issuesparamount with symptoms of PTSD (see commentson rehabilitation below).Date/time of incident: [30 Jul 2014] 8Location of incident: Shuja’iya Market, Gaza CityCircumstances of injury: The interviewee receiveda call from Shuja’iya, in the east of Gaza City, forevacuation of multiple injuries in the marketplace.An attack had occurred on the 3rd and 4th floorsof a nearby building and in the large open space infront of it. When they arrived there was a large fire.Flames were coming from the 3rd and 4th floorsand from the ground floor areas of that building.There was a large fire at the marketplace. Firerescue was present and attempting to put out thefire. A large number of people were attempting toassist others. The interviewee’s team was the firstto arrive on scene at the empty space in front ofthe house. The interviewee took a stretcher to goand find injured persons. He was told that bombshad come down on the top of the building. Therewere 3 paramedics in the ambulance. The driverremained in the ambulance. The other 2 paramedicstook stretchers and their medical boxes into thehouse. The house was ‘full of blood’. Many peoplewere dismembered. Many had amputations.The interviewee and his colleagues assessed thesituation to determine who was alive in order toevacuate them for help. They found a young girl(about 10-12 years old) who was severely injuredwith a faint pulse and shallow breathing.
