Shesays that the hospital was short of dressings and her leggot infected to the point that maggots started comingout of the dressing and going all around her bed. Thepatient’s husband, a paramedic, complained about thisand offered to dress her wound himself, but the answerhe received was that dressings were to be changedevery 5 days. Her husband then brought some materialsand dressed her wound himself. A visiting medicalcommittee from Turkey chose her to be transferredthere for treatment, but for some reason the papersdidn’t arrive on time and her leg progressively becamemore swollen, painful and malodorous. She was referredto Amman, Jordan.Evacuation out of Gaza: The patient was transferredto Medinat Hussein Al Tibbeya Hospital, Amman,Jordan, on 3 Aug 2014. She left the hospital at 14:00 ina convoy of 3 ambulances and arrived in the Jordanianhospital around midnight. She spent about one hour atthe Erez Crossing. The security check was very difficultand painful. Photos were taken of her by the soldiersagainst her will.Comments on displacement: The patient is supposedto return to her home in Gaza but she is extremelyconcerned about her family and children. Her housewas hit by rockets during the attacks and has beenseverely damaged. All the doors have torn off theirhinges and the windows are broken, but her largefamily doesn’t have anywhere else to go. The familyare now back in their home trying to make do, despitethe damage.Comments on rehabilitation: The patient facesdisability in the future. She has adolescent daughters,and she is tormented by the idea of preventing herdaughters from studying by asking that they assist herwith the running of household matters..195
