The five buildings alongthe street belonged to different members of theAl Batesh family.Occupation: Police officerInjuries: Amputation of R leg below knee withphantom limb syndrome; multiple burns to face,chest, back, L lower limb and foot, R shoulder;multiple shrapnel injuries scattered all over body;head trauma with skull fracture affecting visualacuity of L eye; L mandibular fracture.Date/time of incident: 12 Jul 2014 about 22:00Location of incident: At the home of the patient’suncle in Sharia Al Nakhal, Al Tuffah neighbourhood,Gaza City.Circumstances of injury: During Iftar (the dailybreaking of the Ramadan fast, after sunset-Ed.)that evening the patient was in the 4-story houseof his uncle (Tayseer Al Batesh, chief police of Gaza),with many family members, mainly from his uncles’family. The patient’s mother, wife and children werein his own house down the road.The men were sitting together in one room and thewomen in another, bringing them food and sweetsfrom time to time. They could hear the sounds ofmany drones but there was no barrage. The patientdescribes it being somewhat ‘quiet.’ Suddenly,without warning, two missiles hit the house;according to the patient each one weighed 2 tons. It wasa massive blast, destroying not only the house of thepatient’s uncle, but also three of the buildings around it.134
