Gaza CityInjuries: Burns; shrapnel; R elbow fracture.Date/time of incident: 4 Aug 2014, 10:07Location of incident: At home, in Block 11, Al ShatiRefugee Camp, Gaza CityCircumstances of injury: A cease-fire had startedat 10:00, so the attack happened 7 minutes into thecease-fire. The patient’s family lives in a 3-storybuilding, together with the extended family (around20 members). The flat of the patient is on the secondfloor. The patient’s uncles (father’s brothers) liveon the floors below and above them. There is asecond house, adjacent to the building, where thegrandparents and unmarried aunt live. Eight peoplelived in the flat of the patient: father, mother, foursisters and two brothers.On the day of the attack, the house was hit directlyfrom the top. They did not know exactly whathappened and did not receive any kind of priorwarning. Neighbours later told them that twomissiles from an F16 aircraft hit the house. Thebuilding of the patient was hit from above andcollapsed ‘like a pancake.’ All the other surroundinghouses were also damaged.Others killed/injured in same event: Five peoplewere killed: the mother of the patient (38 years old),two sisters (aged 7 and 4 months, respectively), heruncle (father’s younger brother, 32 years old) and hisson/her cousin (4 years old).All survivors of the attack were also injured - 15family members - as well as 5 neighbours.The most severely injured is the patient. Hersister, aged 11, was admitted to Shifa Hospital forseveral days, with burns and shrapnel, and is nowdischarged.
