PART CKHUZA’A - FOCUS AND SITE VISITKhuza’a is a town of 13,000 inhabitants in the south-east of Gaza, in the Khan Younisgovernorate and is about 1.5km from the border with Israel. This town first sufferedbombardments and then a ground incursion by Israeli army troops between 21 and25 July 2014. An unknown number of people were killed and injured in the course ofthese events.The team gathered evidence regarding events at Khuza’a from the following sources:• A site visit held in Khuza’a by the second FFM team, on 10 September 2014,organized and accompanied by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights in Gaza(PCHR). 1 The team received an overview of events from PCHR’s lawyer, ShareefAbu Nassar, and then interviewed- Dr. Kamal Qdeih Abu Rijala (hereafter referred to as Dr. Qdeih), a doctor whoseprivate primary healthcare clinic was pivotal to the events described; 2 and- Ramadan Muhammad Tawfik Qdeih, whose father’s home was occupied byIsraeli army forces in the course of these events.The team visited the sites described with the witnesses and examinedphotographic and medical evidence, including x-rays, connected to thetestimonies provided. They also encountered and listened to the stories ofseveral other adults and children in the town who had experienced the eventsdescribed below.• A second site visit to Khuza’a by FFM team member Alicia Vacas on 12 November2014, in which additional testimonies were recorded and photographs taken,among others the testimony of Sami Khaled Hussein Abu Rijala, who was injured1Present at the site visit: KK, HPH, AV (translating) and two attorneys from PCHR.2According to Dr. Qdeih, he was the only medical doctor in the area at this time. There were no registered nurses. The labtechnicians, nurses, and other medics had left the area on the order to evacuate.78
