In sum, he hashad 5 surgeries on his R leg amputation (one inGaza, the others at Maqassad), and is scheduled tohave another next week. His L leg has had manyskin grafts, and he has also undergone abdominalsurgeries. He has lost at least 10kg.Comments on displacement: NoneComments on rehabilitation: Patient’s mood issombre; he is just beginning to struggle with thesituation; he and his wife are now significantlydisabled and they also have one child with L legamputation; patient is not thinking very far ahead.Short-term rehabilitation and physical therapyneeds for his wife, himself, and his child are veryserious, will take months if not years (for his wife),and are crucial to any kind of recovery. Two longertermissues will pose significant hurdles to recovery:- The patient faces heavy challenges to his mentalhealth-grief and loss but also he was reportedlyunconscious for five days and may later show signsof TBI. At time of interview there were no obvioussigns of cognitive impairment or emotional instability.- The loss of his brother, who was head ofhousehold and provider for the family, along withthe greatly diminished work potential of the patientand his wife, now put them in desperate economicstraits. The absence of alternative livelihoodprospects will undoubtedly negatively interact withhis mental health issues.5.
