3.2 Bureij Refugee Campthroughout the attack. On the day of the incident,taking the chance as the area was relatively calm,the patient went to his field and worked from 10:00to 15:00. He took a break during his work and laydown to rest on the ground. He returned homearound 15:00 and, about five hours later (nearsunset), he started feeling an intense ‘heat’ in hisbody, with pain and itching in the back. In a shortspan of time the skin of his back became red andirritated and big blisters covered the affected area.He couldn’t obtain medical assistance during thenight for safety reasons, despite his temperaturereaching 42°C (the interviewee affirms that he hadthe temperature measured with a thermometer).Others killed/injured in same event: None. Thepatient was alone in the field.Evacuation and care inside Gaza: During themorning following the incident, the patient reachedShuhada’ Al Aqsa Hospital, where he was advised togo to ER at Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, since therewere no specialists available for his case. He reachedShifa Hospital around 18:00 on 20 Aug 2014 (theday of the interview-Ed.), and was interviewed andphotographed directly in ER, before any treatmentwas applied to his blisters.The patient’s treating doctor, Awad Shedar, 11 a 4thyear medical student at the Islamic University, toldthe interviewers that the lesions could either beexplained by chemical contamination of the areaduring the shelling or by exposure to pesticides orother chemicals used by the farmers themselves.There was no clear evidence of the incident beingconflict-related.Evacuation out of Gaza: NoneComments on displacement: NoneComments on rehabilitation: None.
