A meaningful and equitable system of performance reviewwill:-• provide an important opportunity for dialogue;• relate individual performance to organisational goals and• test competence.The performance appraisal system, or format used in the public service providesan opportunity for appraisers to be highly subjective in their assessment of theemployee. This creates problems and incurs resentment from employees whoadjudge themselves to be unfairly treated.
