Student Symposium “Decision Making in Biology” held in Heidelberg in October 2008. Albrecht Bindereifand Annabella Srebrow both gave seminars to graduate students in Giessen University and the UniversidadNacional de Cordoba, Argentina on gene expression and alternative splicing. Finally, Juan Valcarcel andMaria Carmo-Fonseca made presentations to high school students within the program “Joves I Ciencia” and to“Health” journalists.OthersBesides research on alternative splicing, EURASNET members are involved in other important issuessurrounding science and research. For example, Karla Neugebauer gave two talks on Women in Science at theCanadian RNA meeting in September and at the Robert-Bosch-Stiftung leadership training course for women inacademic biological research in October. Angus Lamond took part in an event in which senior PIs from theCollege of Life Sciences, University of Dundee provided information to postdoctoral scientists on what it takesto achieve a PI position from the hiring perspective and key tips for getting your research funded.EURASNET was presented at a science fair held at the University of Barcelona by Eduardo Eyras whichorganised the part of the event dealing with alternative splicing. The fair was held in Catalan, handouts weredistributed and several posters were presented. The EURASNET was presented in an one page advertisement ona divider card in the book “Eurosources”, which is distributed to MEPs, all Commissioners, the EuropeanCommission Officials and Major European Institutions.72
