98 HENRY SYMONDS.(1) To Sir Edmund Peckham, high treasurer, ThomasStanley, comptroller, John Bull, assay master, <strong>and</strong>John Monnes, provost <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> moneyers. <strong>The</strong> Queenbeing minded to convert certain base moneys <strong>the</strong>ncurrent within this realm (Engl<strong>and</strong>) into harp shillings<strong>and</strong> groats to be defrayed about her affairs within <strong>the</strong>realm <strong>of</strong> Irel<strong>and</strong>, authorizes <strong>the</strong> comptroller to receiveso much <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> base moneys <strong>the</strong>n current as shouldamount to twelve thous<strong>and</strong> pounds in number <strong>and</strong>quantity <strong>and</strong> to;convert <strong>and</strong> recoin so much <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>said sum as should make in ready money for Irel<strong>and</strong><strong>the</strong> sum <strong>of</strong> twenty-four thous<strong>and</strong> pounds in harpshillings <strong>and</strong> harp groats<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ard <strong>of</strong> 3 oz. finesilver out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fire <strong>and</strong> 9 oz. alloy in <strong>the</strong> pound Troy.Forty harp shillings or one hundred <strong>and</strong> twenty harpgroats shall weigh one pound Troy. And <strong>the</strong> coinsshall be struck with <strong>the</strong> arms <strong>of</strong> Irel<strong>and</strong>, which is<strong>the</strong>harp crowned, with our scriptures about <strong>the</strong> same on<strong>the</strong> one side, <strong>and</strong> our picture with our scriptures about<strong>the</strong> same on <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r side.<strong>The</strong> harp moneys shallbe current in Irel<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> not elsewhere, <strong>and</strong> eachpound weight Troy shall contain forty shillings bytale. <strong>The</strong> remedy shall be 3 dwt. at <strong>the</strong> assay <strong>and</strong> at<strong>the</strong> shear in <strong>the</strong> pound Troy. Before delivery out <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> mint, three pieces at <strong>the</strong> least <strong>of</strong> every several coinfrom each journey <strong>of</strong> thirty pounds weight shall beplaced in <strong>the</strong> pyx, to be assayed before <strong>the</strong> high treasureror o<strong>the</strong>rs who may be appointed. <strong>The</strong> residue <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> 12,000 current base moneys, after making <strong>the</strong>24,000 harp moneys, shall be retained for <strong>the</strong> cost<strong>of</strong> workmanship <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> fees <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers.
