Great numbers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se puncheons& dies not being finished, some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m cracked <strong>and</strong> itbeing necessary to make o<strong>the</strong>rs to compleat <strong>the</strong> history <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> <strong>Royal</strong> Family, <strong>the</strong> executing <strong>of</strong> this project could not bedone without a vast deal <strong>of</strong> labour <strong>and</strong> expense ;howeverhe was so possessed <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> notion that it would be <strong>of</strong> serviceto <strong>the</strong> Kings cause, that he determined to go on with <strong>the</strong>project, <strong>and</strong> engaged me in <strong>the</strong> said year 1724 to write <strong>the</strong>Book to give an account <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> said Medals, I accordinglyundertook it, <strong>and</strong> at his request drew up a letter to give <strong>the</strong>which <strong>the</strong> said NorbertKing an account <strong>of</strong> this projectsigned <strong>and</strong> sent to his Majesty in Oct. 1724.Ever since that time till his death, I was in a mannerconstantly with him, have been with him to wait on <strong>the</strong>Premier President <strong>of</strong> Rouen, Abbe Bignon, Pere ChamillardAbbe de Bosc & abundance <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r curious <strong>and</strong> learned mento take measures for <strong>the</strong> better executing <strong>the</strong> same projectwhich has been <strong>the</strong> subject <strong>of</strong> several hundred conversationsbetween us ;And I solemnly declare that by all his discourseitappeared to me that he always considered <strong>the</strong> saidpuncheons & dies (after he had bought <strong>the</strong>m) as his ownabsolute property, to which nobody else had any right orpretensions, & that I never imagined by any expressionsthat he dropped, that <strong>the</strong> crown <strong>of</strong> Engl<strong>and</strong> or that hispresent Majesty had any property in <strong>the</strong>m & though to:tempt <strong>the</strong> Kings friends to come to see his closet, he hassometimes called it <strong>the</strong> Kings closet, I never understood itin any o<strong>the</strong>r sense than as it contained <strong>the</strong> pictures <strong>and</strong>representations <strong>of</strong> his Majesty <strong>and</strong> his <strong>Royal</strong> Ancestors <strong>and</strong>;however o<strong>the</strong>r people might underst<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> meaning <strong>of</strong> such
