Target Audience<br />

Pulmonologists, internists/hospitalists, trainees and researchers, clinical<br />

supervisors, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, attendees interested<br />

in electronic cigarettes, tobacco use and addiction, smoking cessation and<br />

tobacco regulation.<br />

Objectives<br />

At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to:<br />

• describe the use patterns and health perceptions by e-cigarette users<br />

nationally and internationally;<br />

• learn the current status of regulation of e-cigarettes;<br />

• counsel patients regarding the role of e-cigarettes in smoking cessation.<br />

Electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use is increasing at an exponential rate in the<br />

U.S. and internationally. This symposium will provide a contemporaneous<br />

update on key topics surrounding e-cigarettes. The speakers will review<br />

prevalence and use patterns within the U.S. as well as internationally. To<br />

ensure relevance to conference attendees, additional topics will cover the<br />

diverse issues surrounding e-cigarettes including lung harms and second-hand<br />

exposure, FDA and governmental regulatory update and the role of e-cigarettes<br />

in smoking cessation. The symposium will conclude with a panel discussion on<br />

e-cigarettes.<br />

diseases.<br />

Objectives<br />

At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to:<br />

• diagnose a variety of complex respiratory disorders;<br />

• develop new strategies to manage the care of infants and children with<br />

complex or confusing respiratory disorders;<br />

• apply appropriate diagnostic tests in complex cases.<br />

This session discusses interesting clinical cases related to Pediatric Pulmonology.<br />

The focus is to choose cases from submitted abstracts that are unique, but also<br />

have a clear story to tell that will be of educational benefit to the audience.<br />

Duplication of cases presented in previous years are avoided by reviewing<br />

previous years’ topics. Cases are presented by fellows or junior faculty and then<br />

subsequently discussed by an expert in the field. While the case presentation will<br />

be of interest to all Pediatric Pulmonologists; special focus is given to make this<br />

session of interests for trainees. Interactive questions are included in all case<br />

presentation to engage and involve the audience actively in the process of solving<br />

the clinical dilemma to encourage interactive learning.<br />
