Target Audience<br />
Providers in the ICU (physicians, nurses, social workers and therapists) who<br />
wish to learn more about the importance of providing effective palliative care(PC)<br />
and end of life (EOL) care in the ICU. Additionally, anyone conducting research<br />
on dying patients in the ICU will benefit from this course.<br />
Objectives<br />
At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to:<br />
• have new strategies to manage the care of the dying patient in the ICU;<br />
• understand the ethical issues related to palliative and end of life care in the<br />
ICU and apply the recent ATS guidelines;<br />
• improve communication with dying patients and their families in the ICU.<br />
This novel postgraduate course will focus on providing the learner with the<br />
current evidence and best practices for palliative care in the ICU. This course is<br />
unique in that it will cover this topic from clinical, ethical and research<br />

• formulate a differential diagnosis of respiratory diseases based on diagnostic<br />
imaging findings;<br />
• improve strategies for the evaluation of solitary pulmonary nodules and for<br />
staging lung cancer;<br />
• state the value of a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and management<br />
of patients with diffuse lung disease.<br />
This course will review major aspects of thoracic imaging with presentations<br />
targeted toward the pulmonologist and critical care physician. Subspecialized<br />
