Tuning and RF Measurements of an S-band RF Photocathode Gun
A procedure has been evolved to tune the RF
parameters of the 1.6 cell BNL/SLAC/UCLA S. Lal, S. Krishnagopal, K.K. Pant (RRCAT)
type photocathode gun to the desired values.
We have achieved a resonant frequency of 2856 MHz for the p mode, with the field balance and the waveguide to
full-cell coupling coefficient bRF both to within 10% of the targeted value of unity, without employing a tapered
waveguide. This procedure has been successfully employed to tune two true-to-scale aluminum, and one ETP copper,
prototypes of the photocathode gun. Results obtained experimentally show good agreement with those predicted by
standard models of coupled oscillators using circuit theory.
The Elettra Booster Magnets Construction Status
The third generation light source ELETTRA
has been in operation since 1993. A new 2.5
GeV full energy booster injector has been approved
and founded last year. It will replace
TRA)
the existing linear injector limited to a maximum energy of 1.2 GeV. During last year, after having completed the
specifications and the preliminary magnetic and mechanical design, the orders for all the magnets were assigned to
two European firms. The paper reports on the magnets’ construction status and the requested specifications.
Design Method for a Large Aperture Opposite-field Septum Magnet
The high intensity proton synchrotron requires
a large-aperture magnet system to re- K. Fan (KEK)
duce space-charge effects of the high-intensity
charged particle beam. Especially, in the case of injection and extraction septum magnet system, the system is
usually divided into several types of septum magnets to separate the beam effectively. As a result, the aspect ratio of
the magnet gap to the magnet length becomes larger. In this case the end field of both magnet core and coil can likely
create significant non-linear magnetic fields, which affects the circulating beam quality. Thus, one major design task
is to optimize the magnet structure to minimize these undesirable end field effects. Three-dimensional simulations
can provide much information for the optimization. In this paper, field optimization of a large-aperture, oppositefield
septum magnet with three-dimensional simulation code is discussed.
Results of Field Measurements for J-PARC Main Ring Magnets
The mass production of J-PARC main ring
magnets had been completed till the end of
fiscal year 2004. Those magnets consists of
97 bending magnets with 6-m in length, 216
quadrupole magnets with 11 families and 72 sextupole magnets. We have been measured the magnetic field for all
of these magnets and we will finish it in March, 2006. The obtained distributions for the BL products of bending
magnets and the GL products of quadrupole magnets are within the required tolerance limits, values of which are
