the LINAC, booster and storage ring. The performance of the design, progress of the subsystem and preliminary test
results of the prototype will be described in this paper in detail.
Design Study for the Upgrade of the Pohang Light Source
We present design works for an upgrade plan
of PLS that may provide brighter photon E.-S. Kim (PAL) M. Yoon (POSTECH)
beam to the users, especially the x-ray users.
The design works are based on keeping the present circumference and location of source points the same in the PLS,
but on relocating the locations of the quadrupoles. We show the results of lattice design, the accelerator physics
issues, including achievable minimum emittance and attainable high beam energy, and its performances. The design
works will be a feasibility study that may provide a guideline for the future plan of the PLS.
Analysis of PLS Optics and Restoration of the Periodicity Using LOCO
The PLS is a third-generation synchrotron radiation
source, which provides intense light S.H. Shin, M. Yoon (POSTECH) E.-S. Kim (PAL)
from ultraviolet to soft x-rays. Similar to
other light sources, the PLS is characterized by a small emittance in order to achieve a very high spectral brightness
and stably circulating electron beam. To guarantee these characteristics, a thorough understanding of the linear
optics has to be carried out, and many storage rings employ LOCO (Linear Optics from Closed Orbits) to analyse the
linear optics. This paper will describe the LOCO implementation at PLS and the results.
Observations of Desorption by Electrons of Residual Gas with Bremstralung in Electron
Storage Ring SIBERIA-2
Electrons of the residual gas, having sufficient
energy for desorption from a surface of
the vacuum chamber, can give the essential
contribution to pressure dynamic at the pres-
ence of an electron beam. To describe the pressure distribution in a storage ring vacuum chamber desorption by
electrons of residual gas has to be included in a dynamic vacuum equation for system with limited conductance. The
solution of this equation gives representation about character of change of pressure at the presence of an intensive
electron beam. Experimental data on observation of a yield of bremstralung from straight sections and bending
magnets on various azimuths of a storage ring SIBERIA - 2 are given.
Electromagnetic Fields from Insulator in Beam Pipes
Electromagnetic fields generated by beam
through insulator insertions in beam pipes
characterize the beam space-time parameters
in the ring. The line frequency spectra of
