Topical subjects Attualità Smart technologies for environmental accessibility Tecnologie intelligenti per l’accessibilità ambientale Giovanni Perrucci, Elena Giacomello, Dario Trabucco T he fifth edition of the conference “OQX - Beyond the Square and the X” (organized by the Iuav University of Venice under the patronage of SITdA - Italian Society of Architectural Technology), was held on October 21 at Allianz MICO - Fiera Milano Congressi. The conference, titled “Intelligent Technologies for Environmental Accessibility”, was hosted by Lift Expo 2022, an international event promoted by ANICA - National Association of Elevator Component Industries, which brings together operators in the elevator industry. The event was held in the arena area, located in a barycentric position among the more than 100 exhibition spaces arranged in almost 7000 square meters in total. The conference, thanks to the contributions exhibited and the collected articles, which will be the subject of forthcoming publication, explored the topic of accessibility to anthropic space through ‘smart technologies’, understood as evolved solutions and applications that promote the autonomy of people with disabilities not only motor, but also psycho-motor, cognitive, sensory, related to non-evident health problems or with multi-generational limitations. The work was started by greetings from ANICA, in the figures of president Gianni Robertelli and general secretary Veronica Franzoni, who then gave space and the floor to architect Dario Trabucco (associate professor, Iuav). In his contribution, besides introducing to the audience the topics covered by the conference, Trabucco highlighted how the elevator is a fundamental Si è svolta il 21 ottobre all’Allianz MICO - Fiera Milano Congressi la conferenza “Tecnologie intelligenti per l’accessibilità ambientale” quinta edizione del convegno “OQX - Oltre il Quadrato e la X” organizzate dall’Università Iuav di Venezia con il patrocinio di SITdA - Società Italiana Tecnologia dell’Architettura. L’appuntamento è stato ospitato dalla fiera Lift Expo 2022, manifestazione internazionale promossa da ANICA - Associazione Nazionale delle Industrie di Componenti per Ascensori, che riunisce gli operatori del settore degli ascensori. L’evento si è svolto nell’area arena, situata in posizione baricentrica tra gli oltre 100 spazi espositivi disposti in quasi 7000 mq complessivi. La conferenza, grazie ai contributi esposti e agli articoli raccolti, che saranno oggetto di prossima pubblicazione, ha approfondito il tema dell’accessibilità allo spazio antropico attraverso le ‘tecnologie intelligenti’, intese come soluzioni e applicazioni evolute che favoriscono l’autonomia delle persone con disabilità non solo motorie, ma anche psico-motorie, cognitive, sensoriali, legate a problemi di salute non evidenti o con limitazioni multi-generazionali. I lavori sono stati avviati dai saluti di ANICA, nelle figure del presidente Gianni Robertelli e della segretaria generale Veronica Franzoni, che hanno poi lasciato spazio e parola all’architetto Dario Trabucco (professore associato, Iuav). technological element for the purposes of complete environmental accessibility of the buildings we live and work in, but also of the whole city. Emphasis was then placed on how the lack of accessibility of residential buildings represented an additional level of discomfort for people with disabilities during the Covid19 pandemic: just think of people with permanent or temporary mobility impairments, or inpatients confined to their homes who had to wait for vaccination at home because they were unable to leave their residence. Professor Trabucco then presented a research project on elevator accessibility that he is carrying out together with two colleagues from Iuav, Elena Giacomello, (researcher) and Giovanni Perrucci (research fellow). The research aims to make the use of elevators as equitable as possible, especially with regard to people with disabilities, by refining those features that allow control, safety, and autonomy to the widest possible number of users, and consists of three basic steps: the reconnaissance of regulations on elevator accessibility; the administration of a questionnaire to people with disabilities, designed to collect data on the use and safety of elevators in the form of requirements, with which to structure an initial proposal of requirements to be introduced in the production of elevator cabins; a final empirical phase, thanks to the collaboration of the IGV company, of experimental observation of the behaviors and sensations experienced by users with disabilities in the use of elevators, from which to draw further indications to give new impulses to product evolution and knowledge, according to the principles of Universal Design. In the following talk, engineer Daniele Pavan (technical director, TK Elevators) presented the project for the insertion of an elevator in an access staircase to the Padiglione delle Carrozze, which connects the ground floor of the Vatican Museum gardens to the basement, where the exhibition is located (Rome, Italy). A complex intervention because of both the particular and high flow of users, mainly tourists, and the architectural context in which it is inserted. The client’s request was to install a means to allow visitors, especially those with motor disabilities, to reach the museum’s exhibition spaces, leaving them visual permeability to the tecnologico fondamentale ai fini della completa accessibilità ambientale degli edifici che viviamo e in cui lavoriamo, ma anche della città tutta. L’accento è stato poi posto su come la mancata accessibilità degli edifici residenziali abbia rappresentato un ulteriore livello di disagio per le persone con disabilità durante la pandemia da Covid19: basti pensare alle persone con disabilità motorie permanenti o temporanee, oppure ai degenti costretti nella propria abitazione che hanno dovuto aspettare la vaccinazione a domicilio perché impossibilitati a uscire dalla propria residenza. Il professor Trabucco ha poi presentato un progetto di ricerca sull’accessibilità degli ascensori che sta svolgendo insieme a due colleghi dello Iuav, Elena Giacomello, (ricercatrice) e Giovanni Perrucci (assegnista di ricerca). La ricerca ha lo scopo di rendere il più equo possibile l’uso degli ascensori, soprattutto riguardo alle persone con disabilità, perfezionando quelle caratteristiche che consentono controllo, sicurezza e autonomia al più ampio numero possibile di utenti e si articola in tre step fondamentali: la ricognizione delle normative in materia di accessibilità degli ascensori; la somministrazione di un questionario alle persone con disabilità, atto a raccogliere dati sull’uso e la sicurezza degli ascensori in forma di esigenze, con le quali strutturare una prima proposta di requisiti da introdurre nella produzione delle cabine degli ascensori; un’ultima fase empirica, grazie alla collaborazione dell’azienda IGV, di osservazione sperimentale dei comportamenti e delle sensazioni provate da utenti con disabilità nell’utilizzo di ascensori, da cui trarre ulteriori indicazioni per dare nuovi impulsi all’evoluzione del prodotto e alla conoscenza, secondo i principi dell’Universal Design. Nel successivo intervento l’ingegner Daniele Pavan (direttore tecnico, TK Elevators) ha presentato il progetto per l’inserimento di un ascensore in una scala di accesso al Padiglione delle Carrozze, che collega il piano terra dei giardini dei Musei Vaticani al piano interrato, dove ha sede l’esposizione (Roma, Italia). Un intervento complesso per via sia del particolare ed elevato flusso di utenza, prevalentemente turisti, sia del contesto architettonico in cui viene inserito.
