In this issue of Elevatori Magazine, in the
column ‘Voices from the World’ we host
Angelo Fumagalli, President of ANIE
AssoAscensori. With him we take stock of the
vertical transport market in Italy, from the
results achieved to future developments. We
also talk about safety, digitalisation, predictive
maintenance and much more.
Su questo numero di Elevatori Magazine,
nella rubrica ‘Voci dal Mondo’ ospitiamo
Angelo Fumagalli, Presidente di
ANIE AssoAscensori. Con lui facciamo il
punto sul mercato del trasporto verticale in
Italia, dai risultati raggiunti agli sviluppi futuri.
Parliamo anche di sicurezza, digitalizzazione,
manutenzione predittiva e molto altro ancora.
In Italy there are about 1 million lifts in
operation, 40% of which are quite old. Why has
the European standard on modernisation not
been implemented in Italy?
The Italian installed base is undoubtedly one
of the largest and oldest on the international
scene. Without entering discussions related
to the constraints of a unique housing, artistic
and cultural heritage, a base that is certainly
challenging in terms of plant management.
The estimate of 700,000 equipment
installed in the last century, before the Lift
Directive came into force, gives an idea of the
effort that our maintenance staff must put in
on a daily basis to keep lifts safe.
The statistics on accidents to operators and
users in Italy (realised by AssoAscensori),
which still record a limited number of
accidents compared to other sectors and
means of transport, are a demonstration of this
commitment.
Regarding the application of European
Recommendation 95/216/EC on the
improvement of safety of existing lifts, all the
lift sector associations have been trying for
years to illustrate to successive legislators the
importance of the improvement of safety of
existing lifts. Until all players are convinced
that this is an investment and not a cost, it will
be difficult to make progress.
How has the lift market changed since
Covid-19?
First of all, I would like to thank everyone in
the industry for their selflessness in providing
operational continuity during the most
critical period of the pandemic. Ensuring the
full functionality of equipment in apartment
buildings housing people with reduced abilities
rather than in hospitals in the midst of an
emergency (just to give two striking examples)
was a feat that required ‘head and heart’ from
all those working in the sector, indiscriminately.

ascensori funzionanti, di cui il 40% piuttosto
vecchi. Perché in Italia non è stata recepita la
norma europea sulle modernizzazioni?
Il parco impianti italiano è senza dubbio uno dei
più ampi e vetusti nel panorama internazionale.
Senza entrare in discussioni legate ai vincoli
di un patrimonio abitativo, artistico e culturale
unico, si tratta di un parco sicuramente sfidante
in termini di gestione impiantistica. La stima di
700.000 impianti installati nel secolo scorso, prima
dell’entrata in vigore della Direttiva Ascensori, dà
l’idea dell’impegno che quotidianamente i nostri
manutentori devono mettere per mantenere in
sicurezza gli impianti elevatori.
Le statistiche sugli infortuni ad addetti e utenti in
Italia (realizzate da AssoAscensori), che registrano
comunque un limitato numero di incidenti rispetto
ad altri settori e mezzi di trasporto, sono una
testimonianza di questo impegno.
Per quanto riguarda l’applicazione della
Raccomandazione europea 95/216/CE
sull’adeguamento degli ascensori esistenti, tutte
le associazioni del settore ascensoristico hanno
cercato per anni di illustrare ai Legislatori che si
sono succeduti l’importanza dell’adeguamento
alla sicurezza degli impianti. Fino a quando tutti
gli attori non si convinceranno che questo è un
investimento e non un costo sarà difficile fare passi
avanti.
Come è cambiato il mercato ascensoristico dopo
il Covid-19?
Prima di tutto, vorrei ringraziare tutti gli operatori
del settore per l’abnegazione dimostrata nel dare
continuità operativa durante il periodo più critico
della pandemia. Garantire la piena funzionalità
degli impianti in condomini che ospitano persone
con ridotte abilità piuttosto che in ospedali in
piena emergenza (solo per fare due esempi
eclatanti) è stata un’impresa che ha richiesto
“testa e cuore” da parte di tutti coloro che operano
nel settore, indistintamente. Mi lasci dire: bravi!
Per ciò che riguarda il mercato, prenderei spunto
