Finite, a composite material created<br />
by students Carolyn Tam, Hamza Oza,<br />
Matteo Maccario, and Saki Maruyama<br />
at Imperial College London, is a substitute<br />
for concrete. It utilizes desert sand,<br />
which is abundant, instead of the scarce<br />
fine white sand traditionally used in<br />
construction. It serves as a biodegradable<br />
substance that simultaneously<br />
helps prevent the planet from facing<br />
future sustainability challenges. Finite’s<br />
organic binders enable the decomposition<br />
of concrete, as well as its collection<br />
and reuse for several life-cycles,<br />
hence minimizing material consumption.<br />
