42 theme / review One of the paramount goals of the North Forest Studio and its owner is to bring forestland back to the town. The name Patamma (the handmade woodland) epitomizes the genesis of the forest, sprouting forth from an abundance of youthful saplings that have been meticulously sown. In the Mueng Jang subdistrict of Phu Pieng district in Nan province, Thailand, lies an expansive rubber tree forest where the Nan River meanders through, offering visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the wonders of nature and the history of the land. Named “Patamma,” the project has Thanapolpoj Rochnattakul and Korkiat Kittisoponpong of Integrated Field (IF) helming the design direction, translating its story through a collaborative endeavor between experts from various professional fields. The design of the masterplan and landscape architecture for the expansive 197-acre site meticulously prepares it for forthcoming short-term and long-term developments. The tasks were carried out under the direction of North Forest Studio and the project owner. Integrated Field (IF), meanwhile, was assigned the role of crafting the architectural design, landscape architecture, interior decoration, brand identity, and environmental graphics for the project’s resort and restaurant, Pa Kam Kin. A substantial element of the project lies in the exquisitely verdant rubber tree forest greeting visitors at the entrance, while another parcel of land has been rearranged, following the owner’s vision to transform it into a forested area with agricultural plots. The trees that have been planted are not merely intended to achieve a large quantity and “create” a manmade forest, but rather represent a careful curation of indigenous flora, with each species cultivated in a designated area that suits its unique characteristics.
