Troubleshooting High Speed Data <strong>Service</strong><br />

Traditional telecom providers face enormous challenge, but also<br />

great opportunity, in addressing today’s market for the high<br />

speed data service component of triple play. As carriers adopt<br />

FTTx strategies that can make triple play a reality, a considerable<br />

hurdle remains: optimizing the use of existing copper facilities to<br />

meet performance and QoS expectations. This must be<br />

accomplished in a competitive environment which is already<br />

seeing some providers lose market share.<br />

Over the last few years, with the advent of VoIP and IPTV, high<br />

speed data service has gone from the most to the least critical<br />

service from a performance standpoint. Yet it still requires fast<br />

and effective turn-up and troubleshooting in order to retain<br />

customers and keep costs at a level conducive to profitable<br />

service delivery. Despite the fact that VoIP and IPTV applications<br />

inherently require higher network performance, high speed data<br />

service delivery is more closely scrutinized because users tend to<br />

be the most technically savvy and demanding members of the<br />

customer base. Providers have found that data service, too, must<br />

perform as advertised, to retain customers. Furthermore, with<br />

advanced networked video peer-to-peer sharing technology<br />

beginning to emerge, the demand for increased up-stream<br />

bandwidth is a new and challenging paradigm shift.<br />
