Chapter 9: Troubleshooting High Speed Data <strong>Service</strong><br />

In order to simplify some VDSL complexity, the standards<br />

introduce the concept of “profiles.” According to ITU G.993.2,<br />

“profiles are specified to allow transceivers to support a subset of<br />

all the settings and still be compliant” with the standard.“<br />

Multiple profiles allow vendors and service providers to limit<br />

implementation complexity” and target specific service requirements.<br />

Profiles mentioned include 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d, 12a, 12b, 17a, and<br />

30a where the number indicates the upper limit of the frequency<br />

spectrum to be used. Table 9.2 below provides a few examples.<br />
