PREPOSITIONS<br />

372. There are very few prepositions of Kurdish origin.<br />

Many Turkish, Persian, and Arabic prepositions are employed.<br />

Some prepositions take postpositions, others stand alone;<br />

some are joined to the following word, others are written sep¬<br />

arately; and there are a few prepositional suffixes, -<br />

The following list contains, besides real prepositions, a great<br />

many substantives that are used as prepositions.<br />

373. The prepositions that take postpositions are:<br />

li_ ei (da-da) in Ij _ 4! (la-ra) or<br />

li_ 4j (ba-da) through ej_ 4] (la-a-wa) from, on<br />

]iyA3 (ba-(sar)-da) on<br />

Note.Occasionally we meet with the preposition li 4J (la-<br />

da) for 'in' or 'on'. ej_ 4. (ba-a-wa) for 'in', and \i yoi<br />

(da-neu-da) for 'in'. (See 109-114.)<br />

374. The 'prepositions that are sometimes joined to the<br />

following word are:<br />

J (b') to, by, with (in) f^ (pe-) to, by with<br />

J (l') from (in) f. (bo) for<br />

J (le-) from<br />

Note.The 1 (b') is a contraction of 4. (ba), and retains its<br />

whole signification in its contracted form. The Î (l') is a contrac-
