(2.) Of two succeeding long vowels, the following vowel is<br />

often assimilated by the preceding. Examples: ip^'<br />

(atûsh) 'thou also', for (f-'_y'^ (atû-îsh); (fi*XJ( (angösh)<br />

'you also', for^li Aj |(angö-îsh).<br />

Note. Exceptions to this rule are met with in words in which<br />

the preceding vowel is an 1 . Examples: ol li^su (padishaek)<br />

'a King'; i^\ j (brack) 'a brother'; dAil j- (chrack) 'a light';<br />

d\.t>U (khûllaek) 'a God'.<br />

(3.) Of three succeeding vowels, or a vowel and a diph¬<br />

thong, the first vowel is often assimilated. Examples : _jb<br />

(daû) 'in that' or 'in this', for ,\ a> (da-aia) ; _j\, (baû) 'by<br />

that' or 'by this', for j\ <br />

(daû) for jb > _^ (baû) for jb ; and J (lai3) 'from this'<br />

or 'from that', for _j\
