Interrogatively, the future indicative is expressed by the<br />

present subjunctive, either by employing an interrogative tone<br />

of voice, or by employing an interrogative pronoun, adverb,<br />

or particle. Examples : (With interrogative tone of voice) :<br />

ff^yi (bi-tirs-(i)m) 'shall I fear?'; o^fyi (bi-tirs-în)<br />

'shall we fear?' (With interrogative pronoun): ij^yi ^y<br />

(kie bi-tirs-e) 'who will fear?' *-»^ ^ a] (la chî bi-tirs-<br />

(i)m) 'what shall I fear?' (With interrogative adverbs):<br />

t^yi 3i (bo bi-tirs-(i)m) or çr-'y ij^i'. (bö chî bi-tirs-<br />

(i)m) 'why shall I fear?' ^ (J>^ (kange bi-tirs-(i)m)<br />

'when shall I fear?' (With interrogative particle) : ^y. Sy<br />

(are bi-tirs-(i)m) or ^y y^ (magar bi-tirs-(i)m) 'shall I<br />

fear?'; 4J (jl ^y (bi-tirs-(i)m yan na) or a> j\j (t-xy SJ^<br />

(are bi-tirs-(i)m yan na)' shall I fear or no?'.<br />

Note. The separate personal pronouns are usually omitted except for<br />

emphasis.<br />

222. Prof. Bresin (p. 151) and Ferdinand Justi (p. 176)<br />

attempt to form a distinct future tense by employing, as<br />

auxiliary, the 3rd person singular of the future tense of the<br />

verb 'to be', which \S(ji^(dah&) 'he, she, it will be'; but em¬<br />

ployed as an auxiliary, in this way, (J^^ (dabe) does not<br />

particularly indicate futurity, but 'necessity', as M. Augnste<br />

Jaba correctly states in the sentence: 'insan hemû di be-<br />

mjrin' (all men must die). In more complete forms the<br />

same sentence would read thus; Oyi {J> y^ jLîl<br />

(insan hamii dabe bi-mrin).
