The SPCVB’s Goal Is To Increase The Number Of Visitors
The entity seeks to bring new events and create tourism products for the city
Event promoters and planners who are interested to hold trade fairs,
conventions and congresses in the city of São Paulo, South America’s
tourism and business capital, must contact the São Paulo Convention
& Visitors Bureau (SPCVB).
Founded in 1973, as the first institution of its kind in South America,
the entity has the mission to increase the number of visitors to the city
and, as a result, to expand the business turnover and consumer market
through the tourism value chain.
Resulting from the initiative of a small group of businessmen in the
tourism industry on November 11, 1983, the Fundação 25 de Janeiro
(corporate name of the SPCVB) currently has more than 450 members.
“Our mission is to integrate sectors of society and to be a facilitator
of new projects. As a result, we support the creation of new tourism
products and the expansion of partnerships between companies who
are interested in contributing to improvements in the quality of life and
the income of São Paulo’s population,” says Orlando de Souza, president
of the entity.
Due to its credibility, and since its membership includes several business
leaderships, the SPCVB has relationships with all economic
sectors that benefit, whether directly or indirectly, from tourism. The
entity is also engaged in the development and implementation of promotional
and marketing actions for the city and, in some cases, the
State of São Paulo.
Since the SPCVB was founded, partnerships between the public and
private sectors have been common in the entity. Actions in conjunction
with Embratur, São Paulo Turismo and sectors of the State Government
are carried out very often. Some of the examples of success
of those partnerships are the opening of shops on Sundays and the
unceasing work to publicize the city’s event calendar.
“We are open to support initiatives that can turn São Paulo into an
even more attractive tourist destination for those who seek options
in culture, entertainment, shopping and gastronomy. São Paulo is one
of the world’s most globalized cities,” says Toni Sando, chief executive
officer of the SPCVB. “It is indispensable to integrate the companies
and activities in the tourism market in order to increase the number of
visitors to the city,” the CEO points out.
The capital of São Paulo receives 9,3 million visitors every year. Around
50 percent of those visitors come on business, generating revenues
of R$ 8 billion per year. The SPCVB intends to increase the number of
visitors to 10,5 million by 2010.
The SPCVB’s headquarters are located at Alameda Ribeirão Preto nº
130, 12 th floor, Suite 121, near Avenida Paulista, Postal Code 01331-
000, São Paulo, SP, Brazil, telephone 55 (11) 3736-0600.
